I tried this drill, but I ended up got the chicken wing. what happened was at the impact I snap my wrist like so, and my left arm quit working (no extension and left elbow coming in toward my left hip). My ball flights either go straight left (pull) or pull slice.

This way to set your wrists will make your clubFACE much more squarly aligned to you clubSHAFT line (swing plane). This is what ALL good golfers do. Anybody practicing a wrist cocking straight up and not more “backwards” is going to have to do much more compensations by the hands/wrists on the way down to square the face. That’s bad. This guy is so spot on with both the analysis and the motion, I bet he has the world record of low hcp’ed pupils.

This is gold, and EXACTLY what you should do. Never get too much into the active hands roll & swivel crap. I would take instruction from this guy any day.
(and this opinion comes from a guy scoring in the 70-75 range)

thanks for the tip! it helped a lot increased distance by 10 yards. This tip is only useful if the golfer is properly sequencing everything else. In other words, for this to be effective, you better be starting your golf swing from the ground up using your hips. If you are not sure what I’m referring to check out Ben Hogan videos on youtube and incorporate this and voila! magic.

If you are THINKING about cocking your wrists, then you are toast. The wrists cock completely naturally in a proper swing…..you simply cannot stop them….it is not just hard….impossible. Check out Shawn Clement…..you will never need to think about cocking your wrists….or indeed any other pre-conceived position ever again. Clemshaw…….took me from 11 to 6 handicap in a year….and I have been playing for 40 years…..

never have i been able to get this part of the swing in my head until now. every other method seems to require more timing and effort and quite frankly i’m not that good of an athlete to understand. this makes sense to me.

This is the first and only explanation of the wrist action I’ve ever seen. I spent $2000 over the last year on lessons and not once did the instructor explain this critical point. Today I spent 30 minutes on the range getting comfortable with timing my wrist and body rotation prior to playing. Even with leaving a few bone head strokes out there, I still shot 81. I had more confidence than I’ve ever had. Primarily because I was not worried about my swing. I got to focus on my shots!

left wrist cock/uncock and right wrist bends so that’s hinging! No matter what the wrist position is at setup, at impact you must have flat and level left wrist and bent right wrist.
As far as squaring the club face, body rotation is one way if you’d utilize swing motion utilizing centrifugal force but there are other ways as well.
I hope I’ve answered your question regarding wrist hinging? Want to discuss more in detail regarding squaring up the club face?

Could you help me, I’m an 18 handicapper and my coach says that if you hinge your wrist its bad, its all about body rotating and the club face will square up naturally but…..?
