TALY Power vs Accuracy Swing

Taly demonstrates the difference between his “without swinging his arms” POWER golf swing where he passes the red ball over the golf ball and his “vertical arm drop” ACCURACY swing where the red ball follows his toe line.

Great point JayKaczmarek. I agree fully.
What we have done is simplify the move to ONE key body part. For the arm swing, it’s the arm movement and the orientation of your arm (i.e. where should it face).
In the “without swinging your arms” arms move we don’t swing arms. We focus on our turn while holding the arms rigid and stationary.
We all move differently and I like golfers allowing their bodies to move as they would because that is easier for them to repeat.

So when you’re calling it your arm swing for your iron play as opposed to the no arm swing with the driver would it be accurate to say that you’re mentally focused on bringing just your arms back and then forward and any body turn is just a result of that motion?

@scoremore05 You’re welcome. It’s always good to get these things out in the open and hash it out. A golf teacher who also strongly believes in the no-wrist-break swing is Don Trahan, DJ Trahan’s dad. I don’t know if you have met him but I bet he would love your invention. Maybe you guys could do something together marketing wize.

Thanks for staying with the conversation as there are always many others who had similar questions but didn’t post.

@scoremore05 AH, Ok, now I get it. Thanks a lot for explaining that to me. That makes perfect sense. Have a great Masters Sunday! Jack

Hi kellj72,
The shaft is not actually catching up to the red ball. The angle between the red ball and the shaft is still maintained and therefore the TALY Triangle (check our page on that) is still maintained.
What you are seeing is the left forearm and my shoulders turning which simply causes you to view this relationship straight on.
After impact the red ball continues to move around to the left and then aligns in behind the shaft and makes it appear like the angle has changed.

@kellj72 The shaft in this video actually does catch up to the red ball about 2 feet after impact and the wrist angle has changed at that point too. I’m not pointing this out to be critical. I would just really like to make sure I understand what you are saying. When I chip I keep my hands in front of the club head right to the finish with zero breakdown in my wrists. If I understand you correctly you are saying the same would hold true on the longer shots… no breakdown at all.

@scoremore05 Thanks very much for your response. I first would like to correct and apologize for what I said in my first post. After watching the video again your club doesn’t get ahead of the red ball in the first few inches. Sorry about that, I should be more careful. The video I’m refering to is on your website under the TALY Geometry tab called HD Slo-Mo Video of No Hinge Swing. (continued)

Thanks for posting kellj72.
I would have to know exactly what video you are referring to but a better point is that you can’t look at a slowed down video of a full speed move and truly understand what the person is doing.
What is important that is that you maintain the impact position shown.
Secondly, my wrists can flip because I firm up the left wrist at address so it’s not possible.
What you are probably seeing is a combination of shoulders turning and camera angle.

Hi, I really like you method and I will be trying it and possibly buying the aid. One thing I would like to ask you is this. When I look at the slo-mo face-o swing on your website you don’t really maintain that angle at impact and in the first few inches past impact your club gets ahead of the red ball.

By the way. Great videos. You’ve got a swagger about yourself.

Hi hogan1948. Hitting 600 balls a day for two years and writing for three hours every morning was a big part of it.
Thanks for posting.

I would like to track my handicap before the mind set, wearing the mind set then after the mind set.
Say five rounds each.

How did you come up with this device, it’s like having a Portable swing machine. I am looking forward to receiving the product. Great product.

After that, the simplest way to develop and maintain lag in your swing is to turn your left forearm to the right in your backswing and keep it there through impact.
No more squaring the clubface with your arms, wrists, or forearms. Leave everything in what feels like a wide open position.
This geometry is the simplest way for hands to lag your clubhead and maintain shaft flex, and it eliminates flipping, and also the over-the-top tendency.

You make great points idatomhue.
I will say that we’re not looking for only a pivot-driven swing. That’s one option.
We also provide two others and that’s what determines what path the red ball should trace.
Pivot-driven swings with no arm swinging relative to your body – red ball should pass over the golf ball.
Arm swings – red ball should follow your toe line or just above it.
More importantly, the Taly works for any swing and allows you to see what works best for you.

scoremore05, I picked up a Taly at a yard sale. It
looks like the device is made to insure you keep right wrist bend going through the ball and to eliminate flipping by focusing your attention on moving the red sponge. also to eliminate arm movement leading to a pivot driven swing. What reference points are you using to monitor the red sponge? Do you set it to point at the base line or more verticle to point closer to the feet and trace that line with it?

I will post a “swinging” video shortly but if you get a chance check out the video we recently posted regarding “turning” called “Taly Explains his Golf Swing Mechanics and Geometry with Driver”.
This will show the proper way to move the red ball over the golf ball through “turning” of the body and shoulders only and no arm or wrist movement.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for posting and we also got your email to the site.
Never “swing” the red ball over the golf ball. If it goes over the golf ball it must be a result of “turning” only. All while holding your arms and wrists in that set position.
If you choose to “swing”, then the red ball must return to your toe line and follow that line through impact.
With regards to your finish, no need to worry about it. It will happen as opposed to you having to manipulate it.

Hey Taly,
I bought your taly mindset awhile ago and I recieved a little instructional booklet with it…It tells me to swing the red ball along my toeline in my backswing, and then to swing the red ball over the golf ball (without swinging arms) or to swing back my toeline (vertical arm drop)…I was just wondering where should the red ball go after impact for both swings? Swings left, right, towards the target, along my toeline, etc? If you can help me out that would be great!

Please note that my TALY Triangle is no bigger than anyone else’s. It is set at address just due to setup.
In this “without swing your arms” swing, what happens is that the golf ball does not get hit when your chest is facing the ball. You have to keep turning.
Your golf ball won’t get hit until your chest is almost facing the target. We set our arms and the triangle way behind us so they must stay way behind us otherwise we have swung, and there is no power in that.

Great comment! That tells me you’re doing it right.
One of the illusions in golf comes from forming our full swing based on our practice swing.
Even though the clubhead will feel way out of position in slow motion, at 80-100 mph that is not where your clubhead will be.
It’s like pulling a can on a string: the can follows whereever you pull the string. Same with the red ball.
If the red ball passes over the golf ball, your clubhead will hit the ball because your shaft is longer.

I see where you’re getting at with keeping your arms in that relation. I just have a hard time believing that ill be able to hit the ball keeping my arms in that position. I just don’t believe I can hit the ball keeping my arm with my hands in front of me when you keep that triangle. Slowing down my swing on a monitor you can see my hands are slightly ahead but I just dont foresee myself hitting the ball with how much bigger your triangle is. Should I just trust that I’m going to hit it?
